Question from Linda:
Why don't low monocytes seem to be as anxiety-provoking [for physicians] as low neutrophils?

Answer from Dr. Leclair:
Monocytes actually don't like the peripheral blood. They use it when they have to as a shortcut transport mechanism. They prefer to be in the tissues. So my guess is that the attitude you see in your physicians is based in part on the fact that we actually do not count monocytes well and because we don't want to see many of them in the blood, because that means they are hurrying to go do things which suggests infections.
