Living with Chronic Pain

Stephanie Possehl, 31 years old, was unable to live a life of a normal young woman because of debilitating back pain. After years of dealing with pain, she had her first microdiscectomy in 2003 which gave her moderate relief. But in January 2011, any relief the surgery had given her quickly disappeared when she found herself in excruciating pain while reading to her first grade class. She found her way to Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) and worked with Dr. Tyler Koski who performed another microdiscectomy. She had the surgery on May 17th, 2011 and by Memorial Day she felt 100% better. Today she continues to feel great and has her life back. She can wear high heels, enjoy time with her friends and is back to teaching her first graders.
