Zoe Garner was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2005 at the age of 40. She had been experiencing twinges of pain in her back and went to the emergency room where they discovered she had a broken back. Zoe was admitted to the hospital and was then told she had cancer. She was referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Over the past 10 years, Zoe has had two stem cell transplants, participated in a number of clinical trials, and received various treatments for her condition. She has a great relationship with her doctor and feels well, except for some neuropathy and periodic bone pain. Zoe believes that the cancer has changed the direction of her life and the lives of her children, positively. In her spare time, Zoe enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, including her 3-year-old grandson who she credits for motivating her to be stronger. In her words, “My future is bright.”
