Sommer Gaughan is a Registered Dietitian and Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition with over 15 years of experience working in a variety of patient populations.  She received a bachelor's degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Florida and completed an accredited dietetic internship through Andrews University at Orlando Regional Medical Center.  She began her career at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando and instantly found a passion for supporting individuals with cancer through nutrition and was amazed at the impact nutrition could make throughout cancer care. Over the years, Sommer’s career led her to other areas of clinical nutrition including kidney disease and inborn errors of metabolism.  In 2016, she was fortunate enough to return to the oncology field at the University of Colorado Cancer Center where she found her passion for nutrition in cancer remained strong.  She joined the Outpatient Neurologic Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) teams where she provides nutrition support to individuals throughout their cancer care journey.

In addition to direct patient care, she has presented various lectures on the role of nutrition during and after cancer treatment, participates in a monthly culinary classes, is a member of the Oncology Dietetic Practice group and a member of the Schwartz Rounds Planning Committee for the University of Colorado Hospital Cancer Center. Sommer strongly believes in the power of optimizing nutrition before, during and after cancer care and looks forward many years to come in the field of nutrition in cancer.
