Roberto Valencia

Spine surgery patient

Over the years, 50-year-old Roberto Valencia experienced some back pain from a condition called spondylolisthesis. One day while playing golf, Roberto experienced severe pain in his back. He found that his active life became more limited and his pain would worsen with each activity. After one doctor told him to adapt to the pain, Roberto decided to seek second opinion. He visited Dr. Wellington Hsu from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, who recommended several options, including spinal surgery. After taking a week to review his options, Robert decided to go forward with surgery. Two weeks after surgery, Roberto’s condition had dramatically improved.  Now, he finds himself in much better spirits and doesn’t have the inconvenience of pain that he had in the past. Roberto lives in Chicago with his two teenage sons and his wife.
