Michael Kurzawski

Oral Cancer Survivor

About 10 years ago Michael was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the cheek. He was treated with radiation therapy and thought his troubles were over. During the last year his cancer came back along his gum line, and was in his bone. Early on his doctors weren’t sure if there it was anything they could do. However, Dr. Harold Pelzer and Dr. Neil Fine decided to operate. Dr. Pelzer removed the cancer and Dr. Fine followed by replacing the mandible with part of his fibula, a leg bone. Today Michael is enjoying life with his family – he has been married for 40 years, has 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Michael is an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox.
