Marilyn Alexander
MM Patient and Support Group FounderMy name is Marilyn Alexander and I am a Multiple Myeloma patient, having been diagnosed in 1993. I am fortunate to have had a twin sister who was my donor in a bone marrow transplant of that same year. I am also the mother of twin daughters as well as grandmother of twin granddaughters and two grandsons.
I was instrumental with the help of several others in helping to start a support group in Philadelphia in 1995. We started around someone's kitchen table and now we have a mailing list of over 300 members with a facilitator as well as a staff of wonderful volunteers helping to run the group with the many necessary tasks.
With the help of a small group, we have been successful in raising the amazing sum of over one million dollars through running 5K walk/runs to help fun research grants for Multiple Myeloma. With the many new treatments and research, my hope is to someday soon see a cure.
