Joy Selak

Living Well with Chronic Illness

Joy Selak has been on long-term disability with chronic musculoskeletal conditions since 1994. Prior to becoming ill, she enjoyed two careers. As an educator, she taught English in Phoenix, Arizona and earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum in Instruction from Arizona State University. In 1981 Joy became a financial consultant and was named Vice-President, Investments with Smith Barney in 1987. Joy has had a life-long love for the theatre, as an actor, singer and dancer before she became ill, and presently as a board member and Education Chair for Zachary Scott Theatre in Austin, Texas. She is at work on her second book, a novel. Joy is married, has six grown children in her very blended family, and seven grandchildren, so far.
