Hilde Stapleton

Advanced Melanoma Survivor

Hilde Stapleton is a wife, mother and stage IV melanoma survivor. She was diagnosed in 1999 and received treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Hilde remained cancer free for seven years and then had a relapse of melanoma in 2006. After her doctors discovered nodules in her lungs, she became a participant in an Interleukin-2 clinical trial. Hilde is also a survivor of a stroke that occurred during her cancer treatment in 2007. She credits her husband, three children, friends, caregivers and doctors with her victory over cancer, “Healing is love, and love is healing. Nobody should try to do this on her own. Let people help you.” Hilde serves as a volunteer to help melanoma patients at both MD Anderson Cancer Center and CanCare. She remains cancer free today and maintains her commitment against the disease, “Once health returns, preventing another recurrence becomes a lifetime commitment. My message is to live your life, love a lot and never ever give up!”
