Dr. Barbara Eichhorst studied medicine at the Ludwig-Maiximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich from 1990 to 1997. In 1997, she began her internal medicine training at the Internal Medicine Clinic at the University Hospital Ziemssenstraße in downtown LMU Munich.  In 1998 she moved to the Medical Clinic III of Professor Wolfgang Hiddemann in University Hospital, also at LMU.  Also in 1998, she participated in a study on signal transduction of the CD30 receptor in Hodgkin lymphoma cells, earning a PhD and MD. Since 1997 she has worked as a study physician for the German CLL Study Group (GCLLSG), initially as a coordinating doctor, then as a Principal Investigator. In 2005, she joined the Internal Medicine clinic of Professor Michael Hallek.  Also in 2005, she became secretary of the German CLL Study Group.  After completing training for medical oncologist and hematologist, she obtained the additional designation in 2006.  She qualified on the subject of optimizing therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in 2011 and was appointed Medical Director in 2012. Her clinical activities include the management of the oncology clinic, the general CLL second opinion consultation, as well as hematological and oncological consultation and background service.
