Alberto Martini, MD
Assistant Professor of UrologyUniversity of CincinnatiAlberto Martini, M.D., is an assistant professor of urology and the director of research in the department of urology at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. He is extensively trained in robotic and laparoscopic surgery, having been mentored by pioneers in minimally invasive surgery. His professional experience spans the United States (New York City, Houston), Europe (Florence, Milan, Dresden, Prague, Toulouse), and Australia (Melbourne). He also received specialized training in gene therapy for bladder cancer under Colin Dinney, M.D., a gene therapy pioneer for bladder cancer, at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Martini is passionate about advancing research and utilizing innovative statistical methods to enhance healthcare approaches and patient outcomes. He has authored over 170 research articles and earned national and international recognition for his work. Notably, he holds a patent for the integration of 3D models during robotic prostatectomy, reflecting his commitment to improving surgical precision and patient care.
His clinical and research focus is on urological oncology, specifically prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer. Dr. Martini actively contributes to several international working groups, including the European Association of Urology (EAU)–Young Academic Urologists group on Prostate Cancer. He is also an associate member of the scientific working group of the Robotic Urology Section of the EAU and the EAU Guidelines on muscle-invasive and metastatic bladder cancer.
Dr. Martini completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Before joining MD Anderson, he was a fellow in minimally invasive urology at Clinic La Croix du Sud in Toulouse, France, and a research consultant at the University Cancer Institute of Toulouse "Oncopole."
His residency in urology was completed at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy, where he also spent two years at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, gaining expertise in robotic surgery under the guidance of leading experts.
Dr. Martini earned his medical degree from the University of Florence, during which he completed semesters at Charles University in Prague and Monash University in Melbourne. Additionally, he undertook a four-month internship at the Department of Urology, Carl Gustav Carus University, Dresden, Germany.
