Hans Loland: A CML Diagnosis and a Miracle Baby

Hans Loland, a systems analyst and avid outdoor soccer player, started experiencing shakes and night sweats. His wife urged him to visit a doctor and he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Hans entered a Phase I clinical trial for CML after it was discovered that he had the rare T315i mutation, which rendered the standard, approved therapies ineffective. Hans already was familiar with the disease because his best friend had also been diagnosed with CML just months before. The trial showed signs of success, giving Hans and his wife the confidence to have the third child (Cooper) they had always wanted to have.
