Understanding Advanced Breast Cancer Series 2011

When breast cancer advances and spreads to become “metastatic,” unlike with early stage breast cancer, today’s medicines are unable to cure it. However, there is a growing array of medicines and other approaches to control it so a woman can live longer with advanced breast cancer and possibly do many of the activities she enjoys. Experts say often advanced breast cancer can be managed as a chronic condition. You have it, but for the most part can go on with many, if not all, of the activities of daily living.
The goal of this series is to empower you or a loved one with information along your journey with advanced breast cancer that will allow you to play an active role and make informed decisions about your care. Our three part series of one-hour discussions with renowned breast cancer experts will help you:

  • Understand what metastatic breast cancer is, what tests are recommended to understand your situation, and how active communication between you and your healthcare team can make a difference
  • Understand the landscape of treatments today, how they can vary from patient to patient and over time and where treatments are headed
  • Understand the role of clinical trials as a potential option for you and to help research move forward to help others.

Please let others know about this important series! We welcome your comments.
