Tips for Having a Healthy Baby & Staying Healthy During Pregnancy

PROGRAM DETAILS:

A healthy baby starts with a healthy mother, even before conception. This Patient Power program features two obstetrician gynecologists from UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics, Dr. Voni Simmons and Dr. Wendy Lorentz, as they share tips and strategies for keeping you and your baby healthy during pregnancy.

You first hear from Brittany who, at the time of the recording, is 13-weeks pregnant with her first child. She talks about how she’s feeling, what has changed in her life since becoming pregnant and how she intends to approach diet and exercise throughout her pregnancy. As a first-time mother, Brittany has many questions about her pregnancy that the doctors are able to answer.

Both guest experts talk about the importance of being prepared both before and during pregnancy. They discuss prenatal vitamins, diet and exercise, and provide answer to common pregnancy questions. Dr. Simmons and Dr. Lorentz stress the need for partnering with your obstetrician throughout and, most importantly, for developing a birth plan. Brittany seconds that by saying “I'm feeling very confident, and as I kind of go through and have more visits with Dr. Lorentz I'm sure that as I go on my anxieties will decrease more and more, and by the time this little person comes out I'm just going to be cool, calm and collected.”
