Skull Base Surgery

When facing a tumor in the skull base, getting the right treatment first is essential for the most positive outcome. Skull base treatment may include minimally invasive surgery, proton therapy, chemotherapy or a combination of these. In this Patient Power webcast sponsored by The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, you’ll hear from Dr. Ehab Hanna and Dr. Franco DeMonte, Co-Directors of the Skull Base Tumor Program, as they explain the importance and advantages of having a multidisciplinary team perform Skull Base surgery.

You’ll hear the story of Gerald, a pilot who had an unexplained nosebleed and sinus problems. Upon exam, his Ear, Nose and Throat specialist found a mass. Gerald decided to seek a second opinion at M. D. Anderson. After a thorough examination and diagnostic testing by Dr. Hanna and Dr. DeMonte, the growth was identified as a malignant tumor, and he was scheduled for surgery. Gerald speaks highly of the surgical team that treated him as well as the confidence he had in the targeted radiation approach. He’s now returned to his normal life and is back in the air flying, which to him couldn’t be more important.
