Emerging Treatments in Follicular Lymphoma

PROGRAM DETAILS:

This is a very provocative lymphoma discussion with a leading expert, Dr. Jonathan Friedberg from James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. Dr. Friedberg addresses some of today's most compelling questions for lymphoma patients and their doctors. When should treatment begin? Where does Rituxan fit in, and should it be used as a "maintenance" therapy? Could radioimmunotherapy be used more widely? Are new chemotherapy agents expected to be approved? Do new drugs like Velcade and Revlimid have a place in lymphoma care? Are there new types of agents like BCL-2 inhibitors that could make a difference? What results are expected with the lymphoma vaccine trials?

Dr. Friedberg begins by discussing the basics of follicular lymphoma including diagnosis, signs and symptoms, the various stages and treatments. He speaks at length about the promise that radioimmunotherapy shows for the future and agents that have been underutilized. Dr. Friedberg also addresses new chemotherapy agents such as Revlamid and older agents like Bendamustine that are beginning to resurface. You’ll also hear about the new class of proteasome inhibitors, like Velcade, how they work and how they are changing treatment for Lymphoma.

In this program you’ll learn more about clinical trials and the future for lymphoma treatment. Dr. Friedberg discusses why every Lymphoma is different, which is why it’s so important to partner with your doctor to take an individualized approach to your treatment. Also hear answers to questions from listeners just like you.
