The Growing Power of Advocacy

Seattle, WA - As the growing concern for healthcare deepens in America, one voice offers a beacon of light and advocacy for patients and medical practitioners alike. Patientpower.info, founded by patient rights advocate, Andrew Schorr, has grown since its launch in February 2005 into one of the leading forces in patient support and education. Connecting patients, caregivers and citizens with the foremost medical experts, the interactive website puts durable information into the hands of people who need it the most. Offering sound advice and up-to-date research, patientpower.info empowers and informs without judgment and delivers the 'power' of information to patients and their loved ones, 24/7.

In anticipation of its continued popularity and growth, patientpower.info recently concluded a complete makeover of the site's look and back-end functionality. Designed to improve the user experience, the upgraded site boasts improved navigation, enhanced functionality, and improved search capabilities that make it easy for users to find information on hundreds of medical issues.

Originally launched as a series of weekly web-based radio shows, today, the interactive quality of the site has also grown. Visitors can now explore a variety of mixed formats including 1-hour live, talk show discussions with online replays. Additionally, the site is home to Special Editions, Podcasts, Webcasts, and Patient Power® Minutes that deliver information with a punch and radio shows run locally in Seattle on KOMO News Radio and KPLZ during drive time and the weekends on KVI.

"Often illness is powered by emotion," says Schorr. A leukemia survivor himself, Schorr launched Patient Power to help patients and their loved ones gain the knowledge needed to make smart choices about health. "The hardest part about an illness is the 'not knowing,' Schorr continues. "The information we offer on the site keeps patients in the driver's seat. When people stay aware, they become their own advocates and that blazes the strongest road to recovery."

Filling a critical gap in the move for patients' rights and the need-to-know, in 2008 alone, traffic on the patientpower.info site has grown from 66,178 visitors in March to over 102,550 in May. Utilizing the expertise and advice from the nation's foremost medical authorities and institutions, patientpower.info provides a forum for the open exchange of ideas and information. The upgrade of the site's functionality and look makes accessing that information easier than ever before.
