Propionic Acidemia is a rare inherited disorder in which the body is unable to process certain parts of proteins and lipids (fats) properly. Neither parent shows symptoms, but both carry a defective gene responsible for this disorder. Propionic academia affects about 1 in 100,000 people in the United States.
