Melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes. Such cells are found predominantly in skin, but are also found in the bowel and the eye. Melanoma is the most worrisome skin cancer, because it often shows up as a skin cancer, but spreads to other parts of the body. Learn about the risk factors associated with this type of cancer along with ways to prevent melanoma, including the importance of sunscreen and avoiding the sun during peak times. If caught early, melanoma is quite curable – surgery is often the most effective treatment for early stages.
