HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) develops into AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) and is transmitted through bodily fluids that include: semen, breast milk, vaginal secretions and blood. A diagnosis of HIV or AIDS used to be considered fatal, but with tremendous progress in the management of the disease many doctors and clinicians now treat the virus as a chronic condition. Over one million people in the U.S. are living with HIV or AIDS, and it is estimated that about a quarter of people in the U.S. infected with HIV don’t know it.
