William J. Catalona, MD, is the director of the Clinical Prostate Cancer Program for the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He is professor of Urology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Catalona serves as the Medical Director of the Urological Research Foundation. He is most widely known for being the first to show that testing the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is the most accurate method for detecting prostate cancer and for having helped developed the "free" PSA test as a means of improving the accuracy of prostate cancer screening.
