Wendy Goldberg, RN
Nurse Practitioner
Henry Ford Health System
Wendy was diagnosed with a stage I breast cancer (infiltrating ductal carcinoma) after an ultrasound and a biopsy. She later had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which ended December 2002. Wendy later encountered a minor complication (mild lymphedema), which responded to therapy, but otherwise she has been well since the end of that treatment. She took Tamoxifen for two years, and now takes Arimidex. Both of these hormone therapies help diminish the chances that a new breast cancer will occur. Wendy received care at the same facility where she was a practitioner. Therefore, the staff who used to consult her for advice also became her health care team. Wendy continued working throughout her illness, and was truly inspired by those around her. “My patients learned things about my health that they would otherwise never have known, it was a rich, somewhat awkward, ultimately rewarding learning experience all the way around.”
