He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Brantley completed his Ph.D. in Human and Molecular Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board certified in Ophthalmology.
