Dr. Matthew Ellis, head of Medical Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine is the first holder of the Anheuser-Busch Chair in Medical Oncology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and head of the breast cancer program at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He obtained his degree in Medicine at the University of Cambridge and his PhD at the University of London. His doctoral research was conducted at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. He came to the United Sates in 1991 on a post doctoral research fellowship from the UK Medical Research Council to study breast cancer at the Lombardi Cancer Center in Washington DC, where he subsequently completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology. His research interests focus on insulin-like growth factor signaling and breast cancer, endocrine therapy for breast cancer, signal transduction therapy for breast cancer, preoperative systemic therapy for breast cancer, array based analysis of breast cancer gene expression, breast cancer clinical trial correlative science. Dr. Ellis is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
