Massimo Cristofanilli, M.D.
Dr. Massimo Cristofanilli is an Associate Professor of Breast Medical Oncology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He received his medical degree from the University “La Sapienza” Medical School in Rome, Italy, where he subsequently completed a Fellowship in Medical. He continued is clinical activity at the department of experimental oncology with particular focus on breast cancer diagnostics and treatment. In July 1993, Dr. Cristofanilli moved to the United States and completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the Cabrini Medical Center in New York where he also served as Chief Medical Resident the last year of his training. Later he began a Medical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and upon completion, joined the facult. In October 2006 Dr. Cristofanilli established the Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Program, the first of this kind totally devoted to develop basic and clinical research for this aggressive disease. Dr. Cristofanilli's dedication to improving overall survival of women with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) was a magnet for IBC survivors and advocates from Texas, Washington state, and New Mexico who joined forces to advocate for resources to fight this aggressive form of breast cancer.
