Laurie D. Sprietsma, RD, LD, is a Metabolic Dietitian in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetics and Genomic Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Ms. Sprietsma supervises management of patients with various in-born errors of metabolism, such as phenylketonuria, maple syrup urine disease, and urea cycle disorders. She has been working at Washington University in this position for over 9 years.

Ms. Sprietsma received her bachelor of science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida in Gainesville. She completed a Dietetic Internship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Ms. Sprietsma is a member of the Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International. She was a co-study coordinator for the sapropterin dihydrochloride trials, evaluating the safety and efficacy of sapropterin dihydrochloride in lowering blood phenylalanine levels in patients with PKU. Ms. Sprietsma has also served as a discussion leader/moderator for numerous lectures and case report sessions.
