Laila Morris, MS
Genetic Counselor, Certified, ABGC/Egg donor recipient
UC Davis Medical Center
Laila and Lou Morris were married when Lou was 33 and Laila was 31 years old. After 4 years of marriage, they decided that it was time to start a family. Both were not concerned when after 9 months of trying, no pregnancy had occurred. After all, in Laila's job as a genetic counselor, she has seen plenty of women over 35 having successful pregnancies. After one year, they went through an extensive fertility workup, which revealed no medical problems for either party except for Laila's advanced maternal age and a little endometriosis. Laila and Lou tried every medication regimen to produce additional eggs, the same medications that one would use for IVF (invitro fertilization), but Laila only produced two or three eggs a cycle and still there was no pregnancy. Finally last year, they decided that becoming parents was more important than having a biological connection to a child and they opted to receive the incredible gift of donor eggs from a much younger woman. In all, they had 10 eggs that fertilized and Laila and Lou chose to implant only two, and both embryos grew on the first attempt. Now they have a healthy set of twins who are one month old. Laila and Lou feel very lucky, blessed and grateful.
