Kimberly Allison, MD Kimberly Allison, MD
Director of Breast Pathology
UW Medicine

Seven months after the birth of her second child, Dr. Kimberly Allison felt a mass in her breast during a self-exam. What she hoped was simply a symptom of breast feeding was revealed to be stage III breast cancer. Following treatment, she wrote “Red Sunshine,” a memoir about her sudden journey from physician to patient. Kimberly Allison is the director of Breast Pathology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, where she continues to initiate women on the same journey. She is actively involved in breast cancer research, clinical diagnostics and teaching. Kim and her husband live with their two children on Mercer Island, WA. When not chasing her children and husband around, she enjoys writing, painting, yoga, running and double tall lattes.
