Dr. San Miguel is a member of the Advisory Board of the International Myeloma Foundation and a board member of the Spanish Hematology Foundation, the Genome Foundation, and the Spanish Myeloma Group (for which he is also former chairman). He is also National Councilor at the International Society of Hematology and Board Councilor of the European Hematology Association, and he has served as Vice Director of the Cancer Research Center, Salamanca, Spain. Among his numerous honors, Dr. San Miguel received the Waldenström Award in 2007 and the Spanish prizes in both Oncology and Translational Research. He is a seven-time prize recipient of the Spanish Society of Hematology and the Spanish Cancer Association.

Dr. San Miguel has published more than 500 articles, and 80 book chapters,. Additionally, he is Associate Editor of Haematologica and a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals. His research interests include prognostic factors, and immunophenotyping analysis for leukemias and myeloma.as well as clinical trials with the Spanish Myeloma Group. Another area of focus for Dr. San Miguel is his work at the University Hospital of Salamanca and the Cancer Center of Salamanca, which are reference centers for studies involving cytogenetic analysis, molecular analysis, and in-vitro investigation of novel agents.
