Jan Woolley Jan Woolley
Multiple myeloma patient

Jan Woolley, 71, is a retired pediatrician from Mercer Island, Washington. In 2007, she was suffering from dry eyes, a common condition. However, a test revealed myeloma. She began therapy with Thalidomide, Dexamethesone and Velcade and in January, 2008 had an autologous transplant. In 2011 she began a course of maintenance therapy with Velcade by subcutaneous injection. Jan has not allowed myeloma to slow her down. She is in the publishing business with her daughter distributing books for parents and children on good nutrition. And she travels, including a recent extended trip to China. Jan has become a vegetarian. While she doesn’t know if that diet helps fight myeloma, she believes it helps her feels good.
