Dr. Hubert Kim is an orthopedic surgeon and director of the UCSF Cartilage Repair and Regeneration Center in the UCSF Sports Medicine Center at UCSF Medical Center. Dr. Kim is a graduate of Stanford University and the Stanford University School of Medicine where he earned both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. He went on to complete a general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at UCSF before joining the faculty in 1998. Dr. Kim specializes in the treatment of arthritis and localized cartilage injuries of the knee, hip, shoulder and ankle. His research focuses on the mechanisms involved in cell death after articular cartilage injury and ways to limit this process. His lab also studies the use of mesenchymal stem cells for bone and cartilage repair as well as for muscle and nerve injuries.
