Barbara Padilla
Soprano Barbara Padilla’s stunning performance of “Ave Maria” on “America’s Got Talent,” left audiences and judges spellbound. In college, Barbara was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She underwent several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and doctors predicted she would never sing again because of the radiation’s damage to her vocal cords. While traveling to Houston for a medical consultation with doctors at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Barbara had the opportunity to audition for the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. She was awarded a full scholarship and earned her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance in 2004. Barbara returned to Guadalajara for a bone marrow transplant. The transplant procedure was a success and the radiation never affected the quality of Barbara’s voice. Now living in Houston with her husband Kyle and their daughter, Elizabeth, Barbara has been cancer free for eleven years. Barbara will release her first solo album, Viviendo, in 2012.
