Andrew Schafer, M.D.
Dr. Schafer is Chairman of the Department of Medicine and the E. Hugh Luckey Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College, and also Physician-in-Chief of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. As an authority in the areas of hemostasis, thrombosis, platelet and vascular cell biology, Dr. Schafer has published over 200 articles and edited 5 textbooks. He has been on the Board of Extramural Advisors of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the Board of Directors of the Association of Professors of Medicine, and has been elected to membership in the Association of American Physicians and the American Society for Clinical Investigation, as well as fellowship in the American College of Physicians and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Schafer was the 2007 President of the American Society of Hematology and is President-elect of the Association of Professors for Medicine, 2010-2011.
