How do you get quality care if you're diagnosed with breast cancer? And how does a team approach really help so you can feel confident that the treatment being recommended is right for you? In this program, Dr. Richard Clarfeld from Overlake Hospital Medical Center, discusses treatment options for advanced breast cancer.
The program begins with Pat, Dr. Clarfeld’s patient, diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2009. She talks about her journey, partnering with her doctor and making treatment decisions. Pat had a mastectomy in November and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. She is upbeat about her future and speaks highly of the care that she has received at Overlake.
Dr. Clarfeld then comes in to talk about Pat’s specific situation and the advantage of seeking a specialist for care. He speaks in depth about types of breast cancer, various treatment options available and the reason why all breast cancers should be treated individually. Overlake Hospital Medical Center is a network member of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), it gives patients an advantage when seeking cancer care. To quote Dr. Clarfeld “I think the patients benefit from it in that they can move from one setting to another or at certain times gives us access to treatment plans we might not otherwise have access to. We want our patients to feel when they're going to sleep every night that they're doing the best they can given what's available at the time.”
